Burkes Mechanical was founded in 1986 by Herbie E. Burkes Sr. with just one helper and a commitment to fairness, integrity, and quality work. That client-first vision was carried forward in 2003 by Herbie E. Burkes Jr., who kept safety and trust at the center of every project. What began as a small operation in Brent, Alabama has grown into a respected industrial contractor serving America's core industries.
A History of Growing With Purpose
From our Brent headquarters, Burkes has expanded into a multi-state operation with more than 900 employees and regional offices across Alabama and Florida. Our facilities now include over 80,000 square feet of fabrication space, dedicated coating shops, and fully equipped equipment yards—giving us the capacity for rapid response and large-scale project execution wherever our clients operate.
Decades of Expansion
1986
Herbie E. Burkes Sr. founds Burkes Mechanical in Brent, Alabama with one helper and a vision to deliver safer, higher-quality work in the pulp & paper industry.
1990s
Burkes expands into automotive, chemical, and power industries, adding its first fabrication facilities.
2003
Herbie E. Burkes Jr. takes ownership, continuing the family values of integrity, safety, and quality.
2000s – 2010s
Started crane & electrical divisions with new offices and fabrication shops in Thomasville, AL, and Pensacola and Fountain, FL.
2015 – 2020
Fabrication capacity expanded to more than 80,000 sq. ft. with dedicated shops, plus an office in Fountain, FL.
2022
Burkes launched a Civil Division and a regional office in Flomaton, AL, extending reach across the Gulf Coast.
Today
Burkes operates with 900+ employees across 11 states, providing mechanical, electrical, civil, fabrication, and crane services.
